Event narrative

Multiple damage reports included a downed tree blocking the Route 135 northbound exit 6 ramp in Plainedge, NY, at 450 AM Local Standard Time, as reported by the Department of Highways, as well as a power pole down, estimated to occur at around 500 AM Local Standard Time on the road in Carle Place, NY, as reported by a trained spotter.

Wider weather episode

A strong area of low pressure moved north along the U.S. east coast and passed through the region during the morning of December 18, 2023. The pressure gradient tightened as the center of the storm approached, producing high winds over Southeastern New York during the morning hours.
