A measured wind gust of 67 mph was recorded at the Harbor Road mesonet station located in Port Washington, NY at 330 AM Local Standard Time. In addition, a trained spotter reported a fence blown down in Hicksville, NY at 700 AM Local Standard Time.

A strong area of low pressure moved north along the U.S. east coast and passed through the region during the morning of December 18, 2023. The pressure gradient tightened as the center of the storm approached, producing high winds over Southeastern New York during the morning hours.
