Event narrative

Beneficial snowfall from several winter storms allowed severe drought conditions to contract to the central and southern part of the zone with moderate drought conditions across the northern part of the zone.

Wider weather episode

A few winter storms moved across the state during December providing beneficial rain and mountain snow to the state. However, this only resulted in the removal of extreme drought conditions across parts of north central New Mexico and removal of severe drought conditions across parts of central New Mexico.
