Event narrative

Severe to mainly extreme drought conditions persisted across the zone, despite receiving some beneficial precipitation from several winter storms.

Wider weather episode

A few winter storms moved across the state during December providing beneficial rain and mountain snow to the state. However, this only resulted in the removal of extreme drought conditions across parts of north central New Mexico and removal of severe drought conditions across parts of central New Mexico.
