Event narrative

Beneficial precipitation from several winter storms allowed severe drought conditions to be contracted to far southern parts of the zone with the rest of the zone now under moderate drought conditions.

Wider weather episode

A few winter storms moved across the state during December providing beneficial rain and mountain snow to the state. However, this only resulted in the removal of extreme drought conditions across parts of north central New Mexico and removal of severe drought conditions across parts of central New Mexico.
