What the National Weather Service wrote

Beneficial snowfall from several winter storms allowed severe and extreme drought conditions to be contracted to northern and central parts of the zone with moderate drought conditions now in the southwest part of the zone.

The wider storm

A few winter storms moved across the state during December providing beneficial rain and mountain snow to the state. However, this only resulted in the removal of extreme drought conditions across parts of north central New Mexico and removal of severe drought conditions across parts of central New Mexico.
