Event narrative

The highest snowfall total in Wood County was 6 inches in Wisconsin Rapids. Winds gusted to 30 to 40 mph at times Friday afternoon (1/12) into Saturday morning (1/13), causing blowing and drifting snow. The highest recorded wind speed in Wood County was 37 mph at the Wisconsin Rapids airport.

Wider weather episode

A rapidly deepening low pressure system tracked from the mid Mississippi Valley Friday (1/12) to the central Great Lakes region late Friday night into early Saturday (1/13) morning. Winds increased to 35 to 54 mph Friday afternoon into Friday evening, causing significant blowing and drifting snow as well as near-blizzard conditions. 8 to 18 inches of snow fell across east-central and the lakeshore as well as portions of central and northeast Wisconsin.

Some of the highest snowfall totals included 18 inches in Suamico (Brown Co.), 17 inches in Howard (Brown Co.), 16 inches near Institute (Door Co.), 15.1 inches in Millhome (Manitowoc Co.), 15 inches in Kaukauna (Outagamie Co.), near Oneida (Brown Co.), as well as near Luxemburg (Kewaunee Co.), 13.5 inches in Manawa (Waupaca Co.), Clintonville (Waupaca Co.), as well as Green Bay (Brown Co.), 12 inches in Chilton (Calumet Co.), and 10.7 inches near Oconto Falls (southern Oconto Co.).
