An intense low pressure system developed over the central Plains and only slowly moved east-northeast across the region during the Christmas holiday period. Heavy snow developed over portions of the Wyoming Black Hills. Gusty winds produced areas of blowing snow. Snowfall amounts of 3 to 8 inches were noted over a good portion of the area, with locally higher amounts.
