At the Beach, ND airport ASOS site (K20U), visibility of a quarter mile or less was recorded for about 9 3/4 hours from early to mid morning on the 3rd.

Wider weather episode

A backdoor cold front moved through bringing cold air into northeast Montana, which

generated areas of fog during the night of January 2nd which lasted into the morning of January 3rd.
