A strong ridge of high pressure with a 594 dm 500 mb high centered near the Four Corners led to slightly above normal temperatures during the beginning of August. Highs at Phoenix Sky Harbor peaked at 107 degrees on the 2nd, while lows were in the mid to upper 80s each morning. According to the Maricopa County Department of Public Health, 12 heat-associated fatalities occurred during this time.
