A convective wind gust of 40 knots was measured at a navigational light near Sombrero Key.
Wider weather episode
Widespread gale- and storm-force wind gusts occurred in association with organized multi-cell thunderstorms in the southeast quadrant of a strengthening eastern Gulf of Mexico non-tropical low pressure system. During the evening of November 15th, a convective mesoscale low pressure system moved from just north of the middle Florida Keys through the Upper Florida Keys, with isolated hurricane-force wind gusts observed just offshore Key Largo. Localized coastal flooding and widespread power outages as result of the the winds.
