The first lake effect snow event of the season impacted areas mainly east and southeast of Lake Erie and Lake Ontario. A series of passing cold fronts and troughs helped make this event a longer duration event covering portions of three days. Some of the hardest hit areas received between one and four feet of snow. For the most part, heavy lake effect snow did not occur in Buffalo or Watertown with this event. Some selected higher snowfall totals for this event off of Lake Ontario included 46.2 inches at Highmarket, 33.5 inches near Redfield and 33.0 inches in Osceola. Off of Lake Erie, higher snowfall totals included 23.0 inches in Chautauqua, 22.0 inches in Arcade and 21.0 inches in Randolph.
