Event narrative

Car accidents were reported in the villages of Catskill and Athens due to light freezing rain. This included the elevated sections of Route 23 and the New York State Thruway near exit 21. The Rip Van Winkle Bridge was also reported icy.

Wider weather episode

An upper-level disturbance approached the region on December 23, 2023 and resulted in a few localized areas receiving a period of light freezing rain and/or drizzle, causing slippery/icy road conditions. As a result, a few vehicles accidents occurred, mainly on elevated surfaces. During the afternoon and evening hours, a period of light snow across the Lake George/Saratoga region resulted in another vehicle accident on Interstate 87.
