Event narrative

Snow Squall. At 11:35 AM, Three Forks AWOS reported wind speeds sustained at 40 mph and gusts at 52 mph. These conditions continued until 12:15 PM. METAR observation at 12:55 PM reported visibility down to 0.25 miles and haze conditions. FAA webcam imagery between 11:45 AM and 12:30 PM showed snow falling with less than a quarter mile of visibility. Visibility improved to 7 miles at the 1:55 PM METAR observation.

Wider weather episode

A brief period of warm conditions accompanied strong to gusty southwesterly winds across much of North-central and Southwest Montana. An Arctic cold front arrived shortly after, which brought much colder temperatures and accumulating snow to much of the Treasure State, including snow squalls to portions of Southwest Montana.
