Heavy Snow — Northern Sangre De Cristo Mountains, New Mexico

2024-02-06 to 2024-02-08 · Northern Sangre De Cristo Mountains, New Mexico

Event narrative

The Taos Ski Valley measured 10 inches of snow.

Wider weather episode

The first in a series of concurrent winter storms rolled across northern and central NM from late February 7th through the morning of February 8th. Strong southwesterly winds ahead of this storm system rolled through much of the central highlands and eastern plains of New Mexico on February 7th. Two mesonet stations in western Guadalupe County measured peak wind gusts passing 60 mph. Isolated heavy snow was also observed over the peaks of the western and northern mountains. Snow levels were too high to allow for winter related impacts to reach down to more populated valley areas.
