The wider storm

A shortwave trough aloft interacted with a frontal boundary across the area, producing snowfall across much of western and south-central South Dakota. The heaviest snow generally fell from the northern Black Hills area to south-central South Dakota, where amounts of 2 to 6 inches were reported in many areas.
