Event narrative

A winter weather event produced 2 to 4 inches of snow cross northern Centre County from the evening of February 16 into the early morning hours of February 17, 2024. As a result, a multi-vehicle accident involving 3 tractor-trailers occurred on I-80 eastbound in Boggs Township between the exits at PA-150 and PA-144. This resulted in the complete closure of the eastbound lanes for roughly 1.5 hours, with only one lane opening for another 2.5 hours before both eastbound lanes were opened. No injuries were reported.

Wider weather episode

Low pressure tracked from the Tennessee Valley eastward across southern Virginia and off the Delmarva Coast, producing a swath of snow across central Pennsylvania from the evening of February 16 into the morning of February 17, 2024. A narrow swath of 6 to 10 inches of snow fell from the Laurel Highlands east-northeastward to the Lehigh Valley, with lesser amounts to the north and south of this heavier swath.
