Heavy Snow — Bradford, Pennsylvania

2024-01-16 · Bradford, Pennsylvania

Event narrative

Snow accumulated between 5 and 8 inches.

Wider weather episode

A upper level trough of low pressure moved into the region while an area of low pressure moved from the Southeast off the mid-Atlantic coast and increased in strength. Between these two features, snow spread from south to north across the area beginning late in the evening of the 15th, continuing overnight and into the day of the 16th. The snow overnight combined with temperatures in the 20s led to a slippery morning commute for many on the 16th. A more potent shortwave moved into western NY enhancing lift and instability from late morning into the early afternoon on the 16th, which is when a steadier, moderate snow fell. Snow-to-liquid ratios were on the order of 15-20:1 for this event.
