Event narrative
The far northern edge of a band of accumulating snow got into Western Essex County with a general 2 to 4 inches reported from north to south. A trained spotter reported 2.0 inches further north into West Caldwell, while the general public reported 3.0 inches in West Orange, and 4.0 inches further south into Millburn.
Wider weather episode
A mid level disturbance associated with a confluent upper level trough lead to strong mid level frontogenesis that developed a band of snow to the north of developing low pressure moving offshore. Southern portions of the area were on the northern edge of a narrow band of moderate to heavy snow. Amounts were considerably less to the north.
