Event narrative
The northern edge of a narrow band of moderate to heavy snow got into Eastern Essex County. An official NWS Observation from Newark Airport yielded 4.2 inches of snow, with surrounding observations just outside the zone yielding general amounts of 2 to 4 inches. Amounts fell below warning criteria across the zone.
Wider weather episode
A mid level disturbance associated with a confluent upper level trough lead to strong mid level frontogenesis that developed a band of snow to the north of developing low pressure moving offshore. Southern portions of the area were on the northern edge of a narrow band of moderate to heavy snow. Amounts were considerably less to the north.
