The far northern edge of a band of moderate to heavy snow stationed itself just south of Manhattan, although radar reflectivity returns indicate that the band scraped far southern Manhattan although reports from far Southern Manhattan did not come in. There were 5 and 6 inch reports just to the ESE over Kings (Brooklyn) and over Hudson County in NE NJ. The NWS Official Observation for the NWS indicated 2.0 inches in Central Park, and 3.2 inches at 1 SE Greenwich Village (Madison Park) via an NWS Employee / Contractor.
Wider weather episode
A mid level disturbance associated with a confluent upper level trough lead to strong mid level frontogenesis that developed a band of snow to the north of developing low pressure moving offshore. Southwestern portions of the area were on the northern edge of a narrow band of heavy snow that resulted in some southwestern zones reaching warning criteria. Amounts were considerably less to the north.
