Event narrative

A band of heavy snow just missed Northwest Suffolk to the southwest. An accumulating snowfall occurred with mainly 3 to 4 inch snow amounts. NWS Employees reported 3.0 inches in Centereach and 2.0 inches at 1 NE South Huntington. The public reported 3.1 inches in Commack, 3.0 inches at 1 WSW Smithtown, 1 SSW Nesconsett, and 3.0 inches in Setauket.

Wider weather episode

A mid level disturbance associated with a confluent upper level trough lead to strong mid level frontogenesis that developed a band of snow to the north of developing low pressure moving offshore. Southwestern portions of the area were on the northern edge of a narrow band of heavy snow that resulted in some southwestern zones reaching warning criteria. Amounts were considerably less to the north.
