Event narrative

A few rounds of snowfall occurred across the area. The first period of snow was during the daytime of January 12th. After a lull during the evening hours of January 12th, lake enhanced and lake effect snow moved back in during the early morning hours of January 13th. Storm total snowfall accumulations of 3 to 6 inches were reported. Strong west to southwest winds gusting as high as 40 to 45 mph on the morning of January 13th produced significant blowing and drifting snow resulting in slick road conditions and limited visibilities at times. Some accidents and slide-offs were reported.

Wider weather episode

A winter storm brought periods of snow and windy conditions during the daytime January 12th. More snow and very windy conditions developed during the early morning hours of January 13th. Storm total snow accumulations of 5 to 11 inches were reported across portions of northwest and north central Indiana Elsewhere, snow accumulations were in the 2 to 5 inch range across far northeast Indiana. The combination of snow and blowing snow produced dangerous travel conditions.
