Drought in Walthall, Mississippi

Drought December 1, 2023 – December 26, 2023 · Walthall, Mississippi

What the National Weather Service wrote

An abnormally dry summer and fall led to prolonged D2 to D4 drought conditions across the zone.

The wider storm

Drought conditions that started late summer continued across most of southern Mississippi through the month of December. By this point in the year, multiple observational sites were running at a 10 to 30 inch annual rainfall deficit. Multiple rounds of rainfall aided in some improving conditions for parts of southern Mississippi, so some areas were allowed to drop out of D2 drought at various points throughout the month, while some areas stayed in at least D2 drought throughout the month.
