Winter Weather — Cascade County Below 5000ft, Montana

2024-02-03 to 2024-02-04 · Cascade County Below 5000ft, Montana

Event narrative

Multiple snow reports were made from lower elevations of Cascade county. Most were around 4 to 5 inches, but a single report of 6.5 inches was made 7 SSE of Ulm.

Wider weather episode

Shortwaves traversing a broader longwave trough across much of the western CONUS brought a round of snow to the region. Most impacts came in/near mountains and across the plains generally west of I-15. Isentropic ascent combined with northwesterly surface winds to result in heavy and blowing snow, especially along the Northern Rocky Mountain front, where short-term (Less than 3 hrs) of whiteout conditions were observed.
