A measured wind gust of 66 mph was recorded at a mesonet station located in Stamford, CT at 458 AM Local Standard Time. A measured wind gust of 60 mph was recorded at a mesonet station located in Fairfield, CT at 455 AM Local Standard Time. In addition, the Department of Highways reported a tree down on Route 15 northbound between exits 35 and 36 in New Canaan, CT , closing the right lane at 714 AM Local Standard Time.

Wider weather episode

A strong area of low pressure moved north along the U.S. east coast and passed through the region during the morning of December 18, 2023. The pressure gradient tightened as the center of the storm approached, producing high winds over Southern Connecticut during the morning hours.
