A measured wind gust of 62 mph was recorded at a mesonet station located at Stonington Outer Breakwater, CT at 1014 AM Local Standard Time. A measured wind gust of 59 mph was recorded at a mesonet station located at Northwest Street in Stonington, CT at 1025 AM Local Standard Time. In addition, a measured wind gust of 59 mph occurred at 500 AM Local Standard Time at an elevation of 66 feet at Buoy Station New London Ledge Light, located about 2 miles south of Groton, Connecticut.

Wider weather episode

A strong area of low pressure moved north along the U.S. east coast and passed through the region during the morning of December 18, 2023. The pressure gradient tightened as the center of the storm approached, producing high winds over Southern Connecticut during the morning hours.
