Multiple occurrences of downed trees were reported. The Department of Highways reported a downed tree in Orangeburg, NY on the southbound Palisades Interstate Parkway at West Orangeburg Road at 1120 PM Local Standard Time. A trained spotter reported that the local fire department responded to a tree down on a house on Roosevelt Street in Tappan, NY at 1100 PM Local Standard Time.

Wider weather episode

A strong area of low pressure moved northeast from the Mid-Atlantic Region to southern New England during the night of January 9, 2024 into the early morning hours of January 10, 2024. Its center passed just north of the region during this period. The pressure gradient tightened as the center of the storm approached, producing high winds over Southeastern New York during this period.
