Event narrative

The Department of Highways reported multiple instances of downed trees. A downed tree closed all lanes of Route 9 in both directions in at Scarborough Road in Briarcliff Manor, NY at 1007 PM Local Standard Time. Also in Briarcliff Manor, a downed tree caused a road closure of Route 9A in both directions at Parkway Road at 1028 Local Standard Time. Additionally, a downed tree caused a road closure of Route 129 in both directions at Saw Mill Road in Yorktown Heights, NY at 1119 PM Local Standard time.

Wider weather episode

A strong area of low pressure moved northeast from the Mid-Atlantic Region to southern New England during the night of January 9, 2024 into the early morning hours of January 10, 2024. Its center passed just north of the region during this period. The pressure gradient tightened as the center of the storm approached, producing high winds over Southeastern New York during this period.
