Strong and deepening surface low pressure crossing the Middle Mississippi River Valley early on the 12th, was preceded by a 50-knot low level jet stream amid the system's strong gradient across central Indiana. Where this jet stream's gradient winds were mixed down to the surface, mainly 40-50 mph gusts were observed. A lone report of severe gradient winds occurred in Shelbyville around sunrise.
