Snow developed across the mountains around daybreak and continued through the day before tapering off during the early morning of the 16th. Significant accumulations occurred above about 3500 feet, especially across Avery County and in the Smokies, where 4 to 8 inches fell. Some peaks and ridge tops above 5000 feet saw more than a foot. Elevations below 3000 feet saw primarily rain, although a few valley locations received an inch or two.
