Snow developed across the high elevations of the North Carolina mountains around daybreak and continued through much of the day before tapering off during the early morning hours of the 16th. Total accumulations above 3500 feet ranged from 2 to 6 inches with locally higher amounts of as much as a foot in the higher elevations along the Tennessee border. Little or no accumulation occurred in the valleys.
