On February 29, 2024, multiple high wind gusts were recorded at mesonet sites, including 72 mph at 1225 AM Local Standard Time in Stony Brook, NY (measurement taken at 159 feet above ground), and 63 mph at 1259 AM Local Standard Time at Eaton's Neck Lighthouse at an elevation of 71 feet above ground.

A strong cold front passed through the area during the evening of February 28th, 2024. This brought high winds behind its passage to Southeastern New York during during the evening hours February 28th into the early morning hours of February 29th, 2024.
