A prolonged Arctic outbreak brought widespread frigid temperatures and gusty winds to North Dakota, resulting in life-threating wind chills. The lowest wind chill values of around 70 below occurred mainly over western North Dakota where air temperatures dipped to around 30 below zero over many locations, while winds gusted to around 40 mph. The lowest wind chill value reported was 71 below at Gladstone in Stark County.
