Wider weather episode
A multi-day winter storm began late on January 8th through much of January 9th with narrow bands of heavy snow traversing northeast Iowa. The initial band pushed through central Iowa during the evening of January 8th and provided an initial widespread 3 to 5 across northeast Iowa overnight into January 9th. The heavier snow bands shifted east through January 9th and resulted in additional accumulations primarily in far northeastern Iowa along the Mississippi River. Highest 24-hour storm total accumulations reached 7 to 10 in far northeast Iowa due to longer duration of heaviest snow bands compared to 3 to 5 elsewhere. Maximum reported storm total snow accumulations were 12.0 in Guttenberg (Clayton County) and 11.5 in Albany (Fayette County) and near Monona (Clayton County).
