Rain, freezing rain, and snow fell with a half inch of snow measured in the Hardin Valley area of Knoxville. Extreme cold followed, with refreezing of roads each night of snowmelt causing additional road hazards.

Wider weather episode

Light wintry mix including light freezing rain and snow, combined with the re-freeze of snowmelt, led to significant travel hazards for motorists on wet roads and interstates the night of Jan 18th. A light snow then followed during the day and evening.
