An official event total of 8.6 inches of snow was measured at the Morristown WFO. Very brief periods of sleet mixed in, but the bulk of the event was all snow. Also measured was a 9 inch CoCoRaHS report on the Hamblen and Jefferson County lines. A Facebook report of 9 inches of snow was recorded near Alpha, TN. 6 inches of snow fell in Lowland, TN.

Wider weather episode

A major snowstorm powered by strong upper level dynamics and widespread preexisting low level cold produced heavy snowfall across East Tennessee.
