Event narrative

Heavy snow fell across southeast Carter. A former NWS employee reported a storm total of 7 inches of snow in Roan Mountain. A nearby spotter reported 4.5 inches of snow, a public report of 5 inches of snow northeast of Limestone Cove, and a public report of 6 inches of snow was received from Hampton. Roan Mountain State Park recorded 2.5 inches of snowfall after starting the event with a trace of sleet.

Wider weather episode

A major snowstorm powered by strong upper level dynamics and widespread preexisting low level cold produced heavy snowfall across East Tennessee.
