Event narrative

Highway patrol reported US Highway 59 was completely ice covered and travel was not advised. There were only a couple of accidents reported. Neither had any apparent injuries.

Wider weather episode

There were periods of light freezing rain or freezing drizzle which resulted in ice accumulations up to a tenth of an inch in southeast Kansas. Slick roadways occurred and there were several vehicular accidents across south central and southeast Kansas.
