Event began with a period of snow, before transitioning to rain and some freezing rain, before ending late with light snow. Two public reports from Johnson City of 4.5 inches were received, along with an inch in Telford, 5 inches in Jonesborough, 3 inches in Gray, and 6 inches in Leesburg. The COOP observer in Elizabethton reported 1 inch of snowfall.

Wider weather episode

A major snowstorm powered by strong upper level dynamics and widespread preexisting low level cold produced heavy snowfall across East Tennessee.
