Event narrative

Local broadcast media reported that one person was injured when a shipping container was blown over onto a truck at the Port of Savannah. The empty shipping container was blown off a stack of containers by a strong wind gust. The person was transported to the hospital and the extent of the injury is unknown.

Wider weather episode

A strong cold front approached southeast Georgia in the morning hours and moved across the region through the early evening hours. Ahead of the front, and outside of thunderstorms, a tight pressure gradient and strong low-level jet combined to produce strong and damaging wind gusts. These gusts brought down numerous trees and produced damage across the region.
