Event narrative
Snow squalls were widespread between 2 pm and 4 pm with widespread wind gusts 55 to 70 mph verified with visibility near zero. 5.5 to 6 inches of snow was measured in Rupert. Trees were downed south of Burley with one of the squalls. Tree limbs were snapped off in Rupert. The Burley airport reported a 66 mph gust with lightning and 1/4 mile visibility. Idaho Power reported 7 thousand customers lost power 12 miles west of Burley and near Minidoka and Acequia.
Wider weather episode
A cold front brought snow and strong winds with periods of significantly reduced visibility, heavy snow, and verified snow squalls. Some road closures also occurred due to the conditions.
