Event narrative

Wind gusts of 35 to 65 mph occurred all day and evening in the Bear Lake Valley. Blizzard conditions were met at the Bear Lake County airport, Emigration Canyon, Bloomington, Bern, Ovid, and Montpelier. 6 inches of snow was measured at Bern. Road closures were the following: State Highways 36,32, and 33 as well as US Highway 89 from Montpelier to the Utah border.

Wider weather episode

A strong cold front moved through Idaho with snow, strong winds which caused blizzards in several zones and extensive travel problems. Many roads closed with wind gusts exceeding 50 mph in nearly all of southeast Idaho.
