Event narrative

Thunderstorm produced marginally severe hail south of Bainbridge, before hail as large as pennies was reported towards Heritage Lake.

Wider weather episode

A large trough of low pressure slowly approaching Indiana from the central US promoted a broad swath of strong overrunning along the Interstate 70 corridor. This forcing first generated strong to severe thunderstorms over east-central Illinois, with one of these cells that entered Indiana producing marginally severe hail in Putnam County. Several rounds of heavy rain then followed through the overnight across central Indiana, with rainfall totals of 2.00 to 3.25 inches along the Interstate 70 corridor.
