Strong winds developed the afternoon of the 21st and persisted into the early morning hours of the 22nd. The Ft. Greely Washington Range mesonet station reported a peak gust of 71 mph during this event.
Wider weather episode
Strong high pressure stretching from the panhandle of Alaska into British Columbia combined with low pressure moving north through the Bering Sea created a tight pressure gradient across the Alaska Range. Strong southerly winds developed near passes on the 21st of February and persisted into the 22nd.
