Event narrative
Strong southerly downslope winds off of the Alaska Range developed in upper Tanana Valley. A trained spotter at Robertson River reported estimated wind gusts of 50 mph on the evening of the 20th. The trained spotter also reported a few trees were knocked over by the strong winds on his property.
Wider weather episode
Strong high pressure stretching from the panhandle of Alaska into British Columbia combined with low pressure moving north through the Bering Sea created a tight pressure gradient across the Alaska Range. Strong southerly winds developed near passes on the 21st of February and persisted into the 22nd.
