Event narrative

Asos station KDLN Dillon Airport measured a gust in excess of 58 mph associated with a northward advancing shower across portions of Beaverhead County.

Wider weather episode

Weak convection the morning and afternoon of April 5 translated two gusts in excess of 58 mph to the surface across Southwest Montana. The overall convective environment was weak from a thermodynamic perspective, but strong southerly winds ahead of an approaching trough made up for the thermodynamic shortcomings.
