Event narrative

The zone started in Extreme(D3) drought but the northern half improved to Severe(D2) drought by the end of the month. The Cooperative Observer in Elk reported 0.32 inches of precipitation which was just 0.01 inches below normal.

Wider weather episode

Above normal precipitation for much of southern New Mexico helped ease the drought conditions to at least Grant, Sierra and Otero counties.
