Event narrative

Dense fog was reported by the ASOS located at Garfield County Regional Airport in Rifle, CO between 7AM and 9AM. Utilizing webcam imagery, fog was noted to be highly localized, mainly impacting airport grounds. Interstate 70 was unaffected.

Wider weather episode

A disturbance brought a round of snow the night before to the I-70 corridor. The moisture from this snow combined with cold air trapped below valley inversions led to isolated areas of dense fog during the morning hours of February 16th.
