Additionally, a personal weather station near Shady Valley, Tennessee in Carter County recorded a peak wind gust of 51 mph around 12:44 AM local standard time.

The wider storm

A strong upper level weather system generated strong cross mountain flow, inducing mountain waves on the leeside of the mountains. These winds brought strong measured gusts to the mountains and foothills of East Tennessee.
